Focused ultrasound is an early-stage, noninvasive, therapeutic technology with the potential to improve the quality of life and decrease the cost of care for patients with chronic migraine headaches. This novel technology focuses beams of ultrasonic energy precisely and accurately on targets deep in the brain without damaging surrounding normal tissue. Where the beams converge, the ultrasound can produce precise biological effects; when directed to the occipital nerves it has the potential to treat chronic migraines noninvasively, as demonstrated in a preclinical study.

Doctor Seymour Diamond was the National Headache Foundation’s Executive Chair and one of its founders. Doctor Diamond was Director Emeritus and Founder of the Diamond Headache Clinic, Chicago, Illinois. Previously, he served as Adjunct Professor, Department of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, as well as Clinical Professor, Department of Family Medicine of The Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, North Chicago, Illinois. From 2009 through 2010, he was also a Lecturer, Department of Family Medicine (Neurology), Loyola University Chicago/Stritch School of Medicine, Maywood, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Elaine Flamm Diamond, as well as his three daughters – Judi ( the late Nathan) Diamond-Falk, Dr. Merle Diamond, and Amy (Charlie Morey) Diamond. He was devoted to his grandchildren: Brian Diamond-Falk (Dr. Katherine Diamond-Falk), Emily (Alex) Horowitz, Max (Debbie) Barack, Michael Barack, Jacob Barack, and Zachary Barack; and to his great-grandchildren (Zevon, Oliver, and Veronica Diamond-Falk). He is also survived by his sister, Idell (the late Fred) Applebaum, and many nieces and nephews.
